Patience is paying off at CVS and Walgreens!

I just wanted to post my success this morning. I got everything in the picture at Walgreen's and CVS this morning. I only paid .96 cents out of pocket. I had to wait on the Kellogg's deal from last week (I got a rain check) since they were all out of cereal by the time I got there, but it paid off and actually really helped on this weeks deal. I was able to use coupons, ECB's and RR's that I have been saving and really scored. I also came away with $7.00 in ECB's and $2.00 in RR's, and a $4.00 off a $20.00 purchase coupon for CVS to use in the future. I'm not going to post all of the exact details, but if you want to know, you can call me or email me. Good Luck on your deals this week!

Aaaaggghhhhh! I'm SORRY!

Okay, so about the post about the Trail Mix Cereal. You don't get the register rewards after 3 BOXES you get it after 6 BOXES. This, of course makes a ton of difference. I am extremely sorry if anyone tried to do this today and ended up taking a trip embarrassment city like I just did. I changed my post to reflect the real deal now.

ALSO the Walgreens on 48th and O and the one on 70th and O both only carry the Trail mix cereal with Raisins and Almonds.

ALSO, apparently some computers print more coupons than just one. I don't know why.

ALSO, the Walgreens on 70th and O has the nicest night manager. I looked like an idiot and he went out of his way to try and get me what I wanted. I am 100% happy with that store.

Anyway, I am sorry.

Trail Mix Crunch Cereal deal at Walgreens

Thanks to Thrifty Mom and her readers for this deal.

Trail Mix Crunch Cereal is on sale at Walgreens this week for $2.50 a box. Use this $2 off coupon to make it 50 cents a box.

That's a good deal, but it gets better. If you buy 6 of these boxes, a $5 register rewards prints out. Pretty sweet.

Just so you know, the coupon takes quite a while to print.

Walgreens Deals Starting April 5

Check them out here!

I make peace with Walgreens

Wow. There are some sweet deals going on at Walgreens this week. I am pretty excited to make big plans, clip so many coupons, and then have my little money saving heart smashed into pieces by a grumpy and mean spirited cashier determined to not let me get anything for free on principle.

Actually, that's not fair. I have been doing some research into the inner workings of Walgreens, and it seems that what it comes down to is the manager's personal policies. I always make sure my deals are legal, but the manager/cashiers at my closest Walgreens have different policies about coupons than other Walgreens in Lincoln seem to have. Last time I went I got a mini-lecture from a cashier about the true purpose of coupons which is apparently, to save a little money but not a lot of money. According to her, if you get something for free using coupons, it is stealing. And the manager was right there. I was so confused I wasn't even embarrassed. It kind of makes me laugh. Oh, thank you so much for explaining the true purpose of coupons to me....ha ha.

Using coupons illegally is wrong and frankly a little low class. I mean, if I was going to break the law, I would definitely not do it with coupons. Good grief. THAT'S embarrassing. If I lost my moral code and decided to steal, I would be much more high class and clever than using coupons! Probably I would use lasers or something...

Anyway, I emailed some other, more established, money saving bloggers about their experiences with Walgreens and they reported that Walgreens, unlike Walmart, doesn't seem to be consistent with their coupon policies. Their advice was to first always be very open with what you are doing, so they will know you are an honest couponer, and second, find a Walgreens that follows the basic Walgreens rules and stick to that one. One blogger reviewed the basic Walgreen rules here. You can find them other places as well.

My favorite Walgreens store is now the one on 70th and O. I've always found them to be professional and consistent. I will let you know how my shopping with them goes this week.

Walgreens Report

Well, things didn't go exactly as planned, partly because my baby decided to get grumpy so we had to move fast.

I ended up doing everything in one transaction and this is what I got:

Colgate Toothpaste: 25 cents
Arm and Hammer Deodorant 99 cents
hydrogen peroxide 50 cents
Chap stick 1.99
Edge energy Saving gel 2.99

Total Spent: 7.23
Total register rewards received: $5
Result: Only 2.23 spent

So, what happened to the rest of my ambitious list?
Life cereal: They didn't have the "maple and brown sugar" variety that my coupons were for, they only had the regular kind.

Pizza: I talked myself out of it. It wasn't that great of a deal.

Scott tissue: I was in a hurry and I couldn't find the sale. So I skipped it.

Candles: The cashier told me that I couldn't use both the Easy Saver coupon AND the manufacturer coupon because Easy Saver coupons are now manufacturer coupons as well. The Walgreens I went to on 48th and O is a little overly paranoid about coupons, so I was just going to try another Walgreens, but then I looked at the easy saver coupon and it DOES say manufacturer coupon on it, so I think the cashier lady may have been right. I will check and see.

Also, from now on I will only post my shopping trip plans AFTER they are successful, because writing it down before I tried it was a big waste of time. :(

My Walgreens plan

Okay, here is my plan for Walgreens. I'll ask the cashier to ring me up in two transactions.

First transaction

1 Edge Infused Shaving Gel- $3.59
(I'll get $3.59 back in Register Rewards that I will apply to my next transaction).
Free

Second Transaction

2 boxes of Life Maple & Brown Sugar Cereal
Sale for 2/$5
minus two $1 off coupons from here
PLUS you get $2 register rewards back
50 cents each!

2 Four packs of Scott TP
Sale 2/$5
Use two coupons from here (there's also one that came in Sunday's paper)
$1.50 for 4 rolls.

1 True Shimmer Lip Balm
$1.99
(get 1.99 back in Register Rewards)
Free

Colgate 4 oz toothpaste
99 cents
75 cents off coupon from Sunday's paper
25 cents

1 Red Baron Pizza
$2.50
Uh...not a super deal, but we like frozen pizza in this house.

2 Glade Soy Candles
5.99 each
Plus two $4 off coupons from here (I hope you printed them when I posted this deal before because they are all gone now :().
Plus the $2 off coupons in the Easy Saver Rebate book.
Free!

So, my total out of pocket for the second transaction is:
10.75
minus 3.59 from my previous register rewards
7.16

Plus I will get 3.99 back in Register Rewards from the cereal and the chapstick. I will use those another day to minimize the Embarrassment City factor and because I can easily walk to Walgreens.

This is probably my most elaborate coupon adventure yet. Wish me luck! I will let you know how it goes...

Walgreens Deals for Next Week!

Sisterly Savings has already posted the Walgreens deals for next week! They look pretty great! Check them out here.

Free Skintimate or Edge Shaving Cream at Walgreens

Thanks to Abundant Food Savings for this one.

Starting March 29 (next week) and going until April 25, if you buy a Skintimate (2.99) and Edge Shaving Cream ($3.59 each)at Walgreens you get at least 2.99 back in in register rewards. CHECK THE EASYSAVER BOOK TO FIND OUT HOW MUCH THE REGISTER REWARD IS FOR THE EDGE SHAVING CREAM BEFORE YOU GET IT. I'LL POST THE CORRECT AMOUNT ON MONDAY WHEN I GO.

(Register Rewards means that after you buy the product a paper prints out from the register that is essentially a gift card to Walgreens.) This lasts all month so it's a great time to stock up on shaving cream. If any coupons become available you can use them and make money off this free deal (so far, I don't know of any).

REMEMBER that if you use the register rewards you received from a product to buy another of that same product (example: you bought the cream and then try to buy another cream with your register rewards) you will NOT receive another register rewards coupon. I THINK that you cannot use Edge register rewards on the Skintimate deal and vice versa...let us know if you try it.

If you are looking for ways to maximize those register rewards check out what Abundant Food Savings has to say about buying chapstick here.

Free Blood Glucose Monitoring System

I got a Bayer Contour Blood Glucose Monitoring System for free at Walgreens today! There was a $30 off coupon in the Sunday paper, and it was on sale at Walgreens for $14.99. So I got it for free (well, $1.04 with tax). I think I have never been so delighted with a receipt. I saved $79.99. Whoop Whoop!

There is also a rebate inside the box. I'm not sure if I will be able to get it though, since technically I did not spend any money. We'll see.

Thanks, Thrifty Mom!
